Jermell Charlo offers to sub in against Sadam Ali

Jermell Charlo tweeted about facing Sadam Ali, but it’s not happening.

Sadam Ali needs a dance partner to save the main event on May 12 at Turning Stone Casino on HBO, after his foe Liam Smith pulled out because of a skin condition.

Jermell Charlo, in a gentlemanly move, offered to sub in, and try to wrest Ali’s WBO 154-pound crown from him.

What about it? Might the “little” Charlo bro get the call?

Eric Gomez of Golden Boy is in charge of finding a sub for the Brit boxer Smith. I asked Gomez, could Charlo get the replacement slot?

“Can’t afford him at this late stage,” Gomez told me. “You need to build a promotion for that level fight.”

Ali, age 29, holds a 26-1 record. The NY-based Golden Boy boxer pulled off a massive shocker to most outside of his posse in December, when he peed in the punch bowl at Miguel Cotto’s retirement party.

He’d have been favored against Smith, and against Rashidi Ellis or Liam Williams, mentioned in an ESPN article as possible fill-ins for Smith. He’d be the underdog against 30-0 Charlo, who is in training now for a June 9 clash against Austin Trout. His demo job last October in round one versus Erickson Lubin was one of the KOs of the year, and he holds the WBC 154 title currently, for the record.
