Canelo: Golovkin was scared to fight me

Canelo Alvarez says he believes Golovkin and his team have just been making excuses to avoid their rematch.

During yesterday’s press conference where he announced he wouldn’t go through with his scheduled rematch with Gennady Golovkin, Canelo Alvarez — yet mostly his lawyer — answered some media questions about all of Team Golovkin’s claims leading up to this point...

Ricardo Cestero (Canelo’s attorney) on why Canelo did speak up for himself sooner:

“This matter has been a pending matter before the Nevada State Athletic Commission since the [test] results were delivered, and the matter has been treated as a pending matter before the commission ever since that letter was delivered on March 5th.

Canelo on Team Golovkin constantly calling him out over his failed drug tests:

“To be honest what Golovkin or his team say doesn’t bother me at all because, number one, they’re not doctors, they’re not the experts...I don’t pay attention to them. It sounds more to me like an excuse of not wanting to fight me. Like he’s scared, to be honest.”

Interestingly enough, it was Canelo who withdrew from this fight...
