Junior middleweight Julian Williams scored a win tonight in the Showtime opener, beating Nathaniel Gallimore by majority decision on scores of 114-114, 116-112, and 117-110. I had the fight wider for BLH, 119-109 in favor of Williams in a fight that was competitive but with Williams taking almost all of the rounds with his better craft and experience. Whatever it was, I don’t see how one could score this fight a draw.
Williams started the fight fast, using a jab and jumping on Gallimore before he could really get his bearings. He also displayed his better stamina as he outworked Gallimore, especially as Gallimore was clearly fading in the back half of the fight.
With the win Williams (25-1-1, 15 KOs) appears to be slated to earn a shot at the IBF world title in the near future. Meanwhile Gallimore (20-2-1, 17 KOs) will have to fight his way back up to the top.
