The good news is that Terence Crawford vs. Jeff Horn won’t be a pay-per-view. The bad news is that you’re going to have to sign up for the upcoming $4.99/month ESPN+ streaming service to watch it on June 9th. Same with the April 21st Amir Khan vs. Phil Lo Greco card, at least in the USA.
The service kicks off on April 12th. Here’s the press release.
I acknowledge that I’m speaking from the perspective of a greedy consumer who spends much more than $4.99/month on much dumber things, but if you’ve got a generational talent on your hands whom you’re trying to turn into a genuine star, paywalling his fights might not be the best way to go about it. Especially when I’d wager the average Joe only knows his opponent as “that guy who Pacquiao got robbed against. Wait, when’s Pacquiao fighting again?
“What’s the hell’s a ‘Matthysse?’”
In any event, the only other fight BoxRec lists on the card is Maxim Dadashev vs. Wellington Romero, so the sales pitch appears to still be a work-in-progress.
