IBF #6 super middleweight Caleb Plant and #5 Rocky Fielding have avoided a purse bid for their ordered eliminator with just a day to spare, agreeing to fight on July 28th as part of the Mikey Garcia-Robert Easter Jr. Showtime card. The winner becomes champion James DeGale’s mandatory challenger.

ESPN notes that DeGale technically has interim champ Jose Uzcategui to deal with, but Uzcategui is lined up to fight TBA on ESPN+ that same night, so I’m guessing that’s not on the menu yet.

Plant (17-0, 10 KO) is a 25-year-old PBC regular who was last seen outclassing “Porky” Medina in February for his best win to date. He looks like he’s got the goods, but Fielding (26-1, 14 KO) has more experience against solid competition, going 5-0 since his loss to Callum Smith with notable wins over John Ryder and David Brophy.

He also stopped Luke Blackledge and Brian Vera way back when.

Still no word on who David Benavidez is fighting that night, but we’ll let you know.
