A vacant WBC welterweight title fight between Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter is scheduled to go to purse bid on Friday, according to ESPN, where Dan Rafael reports that the split would be 50-50.
It’s an interesting bid situation, as both are with Al Haymon, but don’t have promoters. Rafael speculates that Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn could make a significant bid on the fight as part of his new streaming service launching in September, which would be quite a development for the fighters.
Garcia (34-1, 20 KO) last fought on February 17, stopping Brandon Rios in the ninth round of a Showtime main event. It was his first fight since losing to Keith Thurman, who recently vacated the WBC belt.
Porter (28-2-1, 17 KO) has won two straight, beating Andre Berto and Adrian Granados last year. He hasn’t fought in 2018. His last loss also came to Thurman, in 2016.
