The purse bid for the vacant WBC welterweight title fight between Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter has been canceled, Dan Rafael reports, with the two sides reportedly agreed to a deal for the bout, which is expected to take place on August 25 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Garcia (34-1, 20 KO) and Porter (28-2-1, 17 KO) will be fighting for the belt given up by Keith Thurman, who has wins over both of them. Porter was Thurman’s mandatory challenger, and Garcia is the man Thurman defeated to win the title.
Garcia, 30, defeated Brandon Rios in February by ninth round stoppage, his first fight since his March 2017 loss to Thurman. Porter, also 30, has won two straight, defeating Andre Berto and Adrian Granados after his June 2016 loss to Thurman. They’re both still top contenders in the 147-pound division.
