Kal Yafai stayed unbeaten with a pretty one-sided but entertaining win over David Carmona.

Kal Yafai’s title wasn’t on the line tonight in Fresno, as would-be challenger David Carmona missed weight on Friday, but he fought like he was trying to make a statement, and make one he did.

Yafai improved to 24-0 (15 KO) with a strong performance, mixing it up with Carmona (21-6-5, 9 KO) and putting him on the canvas in the first round, fourth round (though a replay showed it was a low blow), and twice in the fifth (though a point was taken from Yafai for hitting Carmona while he was down on the second of those).

Carmona, who was nearly four pounds overweight on Friday, fought hard and gave a real effort, but he was outgunned by a fresher fighter. Yafai, at 28, is actually a little older than the 27-year-old Carmona, but Carmona’s been through a lot more in the ring, and it showed. Yafai was able to consistently land his power shots, scoring at a tough-to-beat clip, and it just wore Carmona down.

In the end, it was Carmona’s corner pulling him from the fight after the seventh round, where he was looking flat-out exhausted due to the pace.

With this win from Yafai, what do you want to see next from the WBA “world” titleholder?
