Joseph Parker vs. Bryant Jennings in the works for August 18th

The fight would headline an ESPN card in Atlantic City

It looks as though former WBO heavyweight champ Joseph Parker won’t spend too terribly long on the shelf after his March loss to Anthony Joshua. ESPN reports that Top Rank is looking to pit Parker against Bryant Jennings in the main event of an August 18th card in Atlantic City.

Top Rank VP Carl Moretti was noncommittal on the fight’s chances.

“It’s a fight we’re working on and it’s a fight we’d like to do but there are a lot of moving parts,” Moretti said. “Sometimes they get made and sometimes they don’t.”

Parker (24-1, 18 KO) has been struggling to recapture the flash of his early career after a series of lackluster performances. Though Andy Ruiz Jr. and Hughie Fury are decent wins, he didn’t turn heads in victory, and he ultimately came up flat against Joshua.

To be fair, though, he wasn’t helped by the putrid refereeing.

Jennings (23-2, 13 KO) is 4-0 over middling opposition since consecutive losses to Wladimir Klitschko and Luis Ortiz, both of whom he was competitive against in defeat. He’s right around the Ruiz/Fury level, so I expect a well-matched fight if it comes together.
