Spence vs Ocampo: Live streaming results and round by round coverage

Errol Spence Jr returns to take on Carlos Ocampo tonight in Texas.

Amanda Westcott/SHOWTIME

Tonight at 9 pm ET on Showtime, Errol Spence Jr returns to make the first defense of his IBF welterweight championship when he takes on mandatory challenger Carlos Ocampo in Frisco, Texas.

It’s the headline bout of a three-fight bill which also includes WBA “world” super bantamweight titleholder Daniel Roman taking on Moises Flores, and a junior welterweight bout between Javier Fortuna and Adrian Granados.

Spence (23-0, 20 KO) is the heavy favorite tonight, and the man some believe to be the best welterweight in boxing today, which is still a star-studded and hot division. The 28-year-old will have home field just outside of Dallas against Mexico’s Ocampo (22-0, 13 KO), who comes in a relative unknown with zero fights at the true world level.

Roman (24-2-1, 9 KO) won’t be defending his belt against Flores (25-0, 17 KO), who missed weight on Friday, but it’s still a big showcase opportunity for both fighters. Fortuna (33-2-1, 23 KO) and Granados (18-6-2, 12 KO) meet in a 10-rounder, a must-win for both, as they’re each coming off of losses.

Wil Esco will be on the round-by-round call. Join us!

ROUND BY ROUND

ERROL SPENCE JR vs CARLOS OCAMPO

Round 1: Spence comes out with a jab that gets parried by Ocampo. Spence comes up short on a lead left hand. Now Spence jabs to the body as Ocampo lays back a little early. Both fighters trying to find the range early but are being cautious. Now Ocampo lands a combination on Spence, finishing to the body. Both fighters trade body shots. Spence continues to probe but hasn’t been able to land much clean thus far. Ocampo seems to be composed but now Spence lands a left hand to the body. Hard uppercut to the body. That’s probably the best shot of the round. Now Spence drops Ocampo at the end of the round with a hard left hand body shot! Ocampo can’t beat the count. It’s over! Spence KO-1.

DANIEL ROMAN vs MOISES FLORES

Round 1: Flores comes out and lands a jab and the whiffs on a big right hand to the body. Roman gets in a couple left hooks inside. Flores winds up on a homerun left hook himself that misses badly. Now Flores lands a right hand to the body but Roman lands a left hook upstairs right back. I don’t know why but Flores’ whole style looks a little sloppy to me. Anyway, Roman lands a couple of counter shots and Flores is flailing. Roman gets in a right hand to the body as Flores just throws one hayemaker after another, not landing though. Roman 10-9.

Round 2: Roman jabs to the head and body. Flores still throwing all hard shots with suspect technique. Left hook lands for Roman, followed by a hard right to the body. Another right hand to the body lands for Roman, then another one! Flores better start defending those, but defense isn’t his strong suit. Flores still walking forward and lands a left hook on Roman. Roman goes right back to the body with both hands. Roman throws to the body again, followed up an uppercut upstairs. Hard left hook to the body lands again for Roman. Roman 10-9, 20-18.

Round 3: Roman comes out again targeting the body. Now Roman pops Flores upstairs with a rare jab. Flores stands so upright that it’s hard for him to get good leverage, balance, or even be able to evade shots. Roman lands a shot uppercut on the inside, then another one. Flores fires back with a couple shots but he takes some more counters in return. Both fighters trade body shots and Flores loads up on a big right hand but takes a counter to the body for his trouble. I think Roman’s clean and consistent body work is winning him these rounds. Roman 10-9.

Round 4: Flores misses on a wide right hook to the body to start the round. Flores is throwing a lot but landing a little. Counter body shot lands again for Roman. A left hook to the body lands yet again for Roman. Flores misses on a sweeping right hand upstairs. Uppercut lands for Roman following a hook. Flores throws three punches that all miss. Roman continues to counter with body shots and then goes upstairs for a couple punches. Hard body shot lands for Roman and Flores should start to fade soon with as man as he’s taken. Roman 10-9, 40-36.

Round 5: Flores continues to march forward and throw punches but they’re not nearly as educated as Roman’s. Two uppercuts to the body lands for Roman — sound familiar? More body shots land for Roman and Flores tries to respond in kind. Double left hook to the body lands for Roman and gets Flores’ attention. Another left hook to the body lands for Roman! Yikes! Flores is gonna be pissing blood tonight. Flores still throwing freely but catches another counter shot downstairs. Two more body shots land for Roman! Now Roman lands a hard right upstairs at the bell. Roman 10-9.

Round 6: Flores comes out with a punch straight away but it gets blocked. Flores continues to stalk and throw but keeps opening counter opportunities for Roman. Two body shots land for Roman. Flores tries to flurry but can’t land clean. Right hook to the body lands for Roman, followed by two uppercuts. Two more body shots land for Roman, and then two more! Flores still throwing but it looks like their just arm punches now. Right hand upstairs stuns Flores! Flores flurries again but hits all air. Roman 10-9, 60-54.

Round 7: Roman comes out this time and lands a left right away. Flores throws two to the body but takes up to the head for his trouble. Two shots upstairs land for Roman. Left hook downstairs lands yet again for Roman. If nothing else I’m impressed with how many hard body shots FLores has aken and still manages to throw at the rate he is. Flores still pressing forward and throwing a lot of ineffective shots. Overhand right lands for Roman. Another one! Roman goes back to the body with the right hand and Flores continues to throw a bunch of punches to the bell. You know what, I’m gonna put Flores on the board here for outworking Roman in this round. Flores 10-9.

Round 8: Roman tries to time a big right hook but misses. FLores walks forward and throws two shots that Roman catches on his guard. Flores throws three punches but catches an uppercut back. Roman snaps Flores head back with a left hand. Left hook upstairs lands for Roman, followed by two hooks to the body. Noe Roman lands a one-two to the head. Roman targets the body again with a couple punches. Right cross lands for Roman followed by a short right hook to the body. Flores still walks forward but is having difficulty being effective with his punches. Roman 10-9, 79-73.

Round 9: Flores comes out with a right hand, a grazing shot. Flores looks like he knows he’s behind and wants to pick up the pace although he’s already been throwing plenty. Roman countering and pivoting as Flores tries to walk him down. Two body shots land for ROman. Left hook to the body lands for Roman. Flores lands a right hand from the southpaw stance. Left hook lands upstairs for Roman. Double left hand lands for Roman as Flores tries to walk forward winging shots. Roman 10-9.

Round 10: Roman tags the body again and pivots out of the pocket before Flores can return fire. Another rare jab lands clean for Roman. Roman follows up with a couple more body shots to both sides of Flores. Flores takes the hint that it’s his turn and he tries to do the same but misses on both shots. Two more counter shots to the body land for Roman. Hard left uppercut to the gut lands for Roman again! Flores is really absorbing a ton of body punishment. Roman hasn’t been bothered much by Flores’ consistent pressure. Roman 10-9, 99-91.

Round 11: Flores continues to stalk and walk into counter shots. Right hand to the body lands for Roman, then a left hook. Flores lands a one-two that prompts Roman to fire back. Hard right hook to the body lands for Roman. Roman goes southpaw momentarily and lands a straight left hand to the body. Roman goes back to the orthodox stance and lands a clean left hook to the head. Roman 10-9.

Round 12: Both fighters touch gloves to start the round and Flores comes out and wings a wide right hook that predictably misses. Now Flores gets in a couple shots but they don’t have much sting on them. Right hook to the head and body land for Roman. A few uppercuts to the head get in for Roman on the inside. Double left hook lands for Roman. Roman tags Flores with a couple more and then pivots away from the ropes. Roman 10-9. I’ve got it a gentleman’s sweep for Roman, 119-109.

JAVIER FORTUNA vs ADRIAN GRANADOS

Round 1: Granados comes out looking to press Fortuna right away and takes him right to the ropes and attacks to the head and body. Fortuna decideds to fire back and lands a few shots that backs Granados off of him. Fortuna lands a lead left hand and then follows up with a right hook before tying Granados up. Fortuna gets warned by the referee for pushing Granados’ head down. Fortuna touches Granados with several more shots as Granados walks in and looks to steadily apply pressure. Granados scores a clean takedown at the legs, if this was MMA that would probably be scored favorably. Granados looks like his left eye is marked already. I like Fortuna’s counterpunching in this round. Fortuna 10-9.

Round 2: Fortuna tries to counter Granados’ jab with his own jab but neither fight land clean. Now Fortuna lands a clean left hand lead. Fortuna consistently tying up as Granados walks in close, and now Fortuna gets warned by the referee for too much holding. Uppercut, left hook lands for Fortuna. Granados fires back and gets in a couple shots. A couple of counter left hands land for Fortuna upstairs. Granados is really having trouble defending those shots thus far. Granados tries to maul Fortuna to end the round. I still favor Fortuna’s work. Fortuna 10-9, 20-18.

Round 3: Granados comes out again coming right after Fortuna but walks into a left hand. Another counter left lands for Fortuna but Granados responds with a combination that gets in. Fortuna continues to fight going backwards but is predicting Granados’ forward momentum well to find spots to counter. Granados gets back on the inside and gets in some shots, although not too damaging. Granados is keen on trying to bully Fortuna and impose his size, perhaps trying to wear him down for the second half of the fight. Left hand lead lands again for Fortuna who then ties up Granados. Fortuna is getting in the cleaner shots. Fortuna 10-9.

Round 4: Granados tries to walk in with a body shot that falls short. He continues to stalk Fortuna to the ropes but once he gets there Fortuna gets of some punches and looks to stop Granados’ inside work. A couple of overhand shots land for Granados. Fortuna gets a point taken away for punching behind the head? It wasn’t clear but Granados tries to fight right through the break. Fortuna now gets another point taken away for holding. My, oh my. That’s a tough break and questionable officiating. Fortuna is now throwing caution to the wind and backing Granados up with several hard shots. Now Fortuna gets tackled out of the ring and hits the back of his head on a table! Fortuna is showing that he’s really hurt and possibly unable to continue and the crowd boos as they think he’s playing it up. This fight quickly turned into a shit show! Fortuna is getting a neck brace and a stretcher and this fight is obviously going to be ended right here as he gets wheeled to the back. I have no idea how this fight is going to be officially ruled, probably a no contest.
