Former Olympic gold medalist Luke Campbell and the first man to defeat him as a pro, Yvan Mendy, have reportedly come to terms for a WBC eliminator. Mendy’s promoter claims that the fight will take place on either September 22nd or 29th as part of Anthony Joshua’s next card.

Mendy (40-4-1, 19 KO) beat Campbell (18-2, 15 KO) by split decision in 2015. Since then, Mendy has feasted on mid-level competition in his native France, while Campbell has gone 6-1 and given Jorge Linares a damn tough out in that one defeat.

It’s a fight that was certainly worth running back, and it will be interesting to see how they fare against one another after three years away.

There’s still no word as to whom Joshua will actually fight in the main event, as he and Wilder are still in the will-they-won’t-they part of their professional relationship. It’s looking as though it’ll be Alexander Povetkin, but we’ll wait and see.
