Tonight at 10 pm ET on Showtime, we’ll see a pair of women’s middleweight title fights highlight a tripleheader from Detroit, with Claressa Shields taking on Hanna Gabriels in the main event.
Shields (5-0, 2 KO) has won two titles at super middleweight already, and now has moved down to 160 to chase more title belts. The vacant IBF and WBA titles are on the line tonight, as she faces multiple-time junior middleweight champion Gabriels (18-1-1, 11 KO) of Costa Rica.
In the co-feature, Christina Hammer (22-0, 10 KO) will defend the WBC and WBO middleweight titles against Tori Nelson (17-1-3, 2 KO). It’s clear that the hope is for Shields and Hammer to win, setting up a hyped unification bout later this year.
In the opener, light heavyweight prospect Umar Salamov (20-1, 15 KO) takes on Brian Howard (13-1, 10 KO) in a 10-round bout. Salamov lost to Damien Hooper last year in Australia in a close bout, and now will make his U.S. debut. Howard is a 38-year-old club fighter from Atlanta.
