Ramirez vs Angulo: Live streaming results and round by round coverage

d\Tonight on ESPN, kicking off at 9pm ET, super middleweight titleholder Gilberto Ramirez returns to action to defend his WBO belt against challenger Roamer Alexis Angulo in Oklahoma City.

Ramirez (37-0, 25 KOs) is most recently coming off a stoppage win over Habib Ahmed back in February and has still yet to face a truly daunting opponent at this point. Tonight really may not be any different as his opponent, Angulo (23-0, 20 KOs), while undefeated, has yet to face anyone of note.

Also on the card will be local fighter Alex Saucedo (27-0, 17 KOs) taking on Lenny Zappavigna (37-3, 27 KOs) in a 10-round junior welterweight fight which will serve as the main event’s co-feature. Robson Conceicao (7-0, 4 KOs) will also face off against Gavino Guaman (5-2, 1 KO) in a 6-round junior lightweight contest.

ROUND BY ROUND

GILBERTO RAMIREZ vs ROAMER ALEXIS ANGULO

Round 1: Ramirez comes to center ring and tries to corner Angulo right away. Angulo is using lateral movement to try to walk Ramirez into a big overhand right hand. Uppercut partially lands for Angulo. Ramirez touches Angulo with a jab as he was stepping backwards. Angulo presses forward and tries to attack Ramirez along the ropes. Not much done on either side but I kind of favor Angulo in the opening round. Angulo 10-9.

Round 2: Ramirez comes out and lands a jab early. UPpercut lands for Ramirez but Angulo gets in a good body shot in return and then tries to work him along the ropes. Left hand to the body lands for Ramirez. Left hook lands for Angulo, Ramirez tries to recapture his preferred distance and lands a jab. Ramirez gets in a couple of short shots on the inside. Ramirez 10-9, 19-19.

Round 3: Ramirez is pressing hard to open this round, looking to get some damage done. Angulo hits the deck as the fighters come together and it’s ruled a slip. Hard body shots lands for Ramirez. Right uppercut lands for Ramirez which gets Angulo’s attention and Angulo wants to retaliate right away and clips Ramirez upstairs with a right hand. Good body shot knocks Angulo back to the ropes. Both fighters trade shots but it looks like Angulo’s landed with a little more power. Ramirez 10-9.

Round 4: Ramirez paws with his jab but then Angulo looks to go on the attack but can’t quite find his range. Jab lands for Ramirez. Left to the body comes again from Ramirez. Both fighters trade a couple of shots at close range which don’t have much effect. Left hook, right hand lands for Angulo. Angulo isn’t really working a lot here and that’s gonna make it tough to win rounds from the champion. Ramirez 10-9, 39-37.

Round 5: Ramirez steps out again and tries to back Angulo up, tagging him with a straight left to the body. Right hook to the body lands for Ramirez. Angulo laying back, waiting for counter opportunities where he can land something big. Angulo is literally just waiting for chances to pick his shot and is landing some good ones. Uppercut from Ramirez knocks Angulo back and probably wins him the roun. Ramirez 10-9.

Round 6: Angulo is defending himself pretty well, even if he’s not having the most tremendous offense output. Ramireaz tries a combination that almost all lands on Angulo’s guard. Jab lands for Ramirez. Another combination comes from Ramirez as Angulo covers up. Hard right hand lands for Ramirez. This is kind of a boring fight if I’m being honest. Ramirez 10-9, 49-46.

Round 7: Angulo comes out and tries to press Ramirez to start this round but walks towards Ramirez’s jab. Ramirez tries hooks to both sides of Angulo’s body. Hard shot from Angulo momentarily stuns Ramirez and has him on the defensive. Ramirez tries to get a short combination back but it’s mostly blocked. Angulo 10-9.

Round 8: Left hook from Angulo backs Ramirez up. Ramirez tries a jab again but he’s not really as effective at long range. Both fighters trading shots on the inside now until they force a break. Ramirez gets in a couple of good shots to end the round, which is enough to win the round for me. Ramirez 10-9, 78-74.

Round 9: Angulo still waiting for a chance to land a big overhand right counter. Ramirez has Angulo on the ropes for a moment and takes the chance to attack. Angulo manages to get out and turns the tables on Ramirez, hitting him with a couple of shots. Ramirez tries to work his way back to the fundaments, starting off with a jab to disrupt Angulo’s timing. Ramirez 10-9.

Round 10: Angulo comes out quick with a big right hand that falls just short as Ramirez pulls back. Angulo goes down to the body with a right hand. Ramirez tries to get a combination working but has some difficulty with Angulo evading. Hard straight left lands for Ramirez. Ramirez lands a short combination and Angulo gets the memo that he should probably start punching too. Angulo just isn’t working enough for me. Ramirez 10-9, 98-92.

Round 11: Angulo comes forward but can’t land clean with any shots. Two right hooks partially land for Ramirez in return. Short uppercut lands for Angulo as he leans on Ramirez along the ropes. Angulo is still pressing Ramirez along the ropes and Ramirez goes down on a knee which isn’t ruled a knockdown. Maybe Angulo takes this round? I don’t know, I’m a little disinterested at this point. Angulo 10-9.

Round 12: Ramirez tries an uppercut as Angulo walks in. Left hook lands for Angulo. Ramirez comes back with a short combination. Ramirez working his uppercuts again as Angulo covers up and now Ramirez gets in a left straight. Ramirez doesn’t inflict much damage but mostly outworked his opponent tonight. Ramirez 10-9, 117-111.

ROBSON CONCEICAO vs GAVINO GUAMAN

Round 1: Conceicao marches forward and tries to land a couple of hard jabs right away. Guaman tries to ambush him with an ineffective attack. Conceicao looks much, much bigger than Guaman in the ring. Yikes. Conceicao is very composed, applying pressure and then lands a hard right hand to the body. Conceicao attacks to both sides of Guaman’s body and knocks him down with a body shot that’s ruled a slip. Two hard body shots land for Conceicao. Another hard body shot lands for Conceicao and now Guaman goes down, this time it’s ruled a knockdown. Conceicao 10-8.

Round 2: Conceicao comes out and attacjs with a couple of hard shots that force Guaman to just hold on. Four hard shots knock back Guaman who nods to Conceicao. Guaman misses badly on a right hand and gets touched by a long Conceicao punch. Guaman is bleeding from his nose. Conceicao misses on an uppercut from outside and then strafes Guaman with a follow up flurry that knocks him back into the ropes. Guaman goes down again with another body shot, with a delayed reaction. Four hard shots rattle Guaman again and put him down to end the round. Well, this is just an exhibition I see. Conceicao 10-7, 20-15.

Round 3: Conceicao hits Guaman with a hook and I’m not sure what more we really need to see in this fight. Overhand right puts Guaman down again who just barely beats the 10 count but falls back into the ropes. Referee calls it a night. Conceicao TKO-3.

ALEX SAUCEDO vs. LENNY ZAPPAVIGNA

Round 1: Zappavigna pumps a few jabs betweens Saucedo’s guard. Zappavigna continues to probe with his jab as Saucedo tries to apply pressure. Saucedo throws a combination that doesn’t land clean Now Saucedo gets in a good uppercut followed by a hook. Zappavigna continues to try and control the range with a jab but gets countered right at the bell. I think Saucedo edges the round. Saucedo 10-9.

Round 2: Saucedo gets in a right hand but Zappavigna tries to answer right back with a few punches. Hard right hand stings Zappavigna after Saucedo sets him up. Zappavigna moves backwards after that shot. Sauseco clips Zappavigna with a hook as he tries to walk in. Now Zappavigna gets in a shot after he steps on the gas pedal. Four hard shots land for Saucedo! Zappavigna looks like he’s bleeding already. Saucedo 10-9, 20-18.

Round 3: Zappavigna comes out quick throwing a number of jabs. Zappavigna whiffs on a big right hand. Saucedo is patient, waiting for opportunities. Zappavigna goes down on a hard shot from Saucedo! He barely beats the 10-count but the referee lets him continue. Saicedo goes on the attack and nails Zappavigna with a left hook to the body. Zappavigna tries to club Saucedo over the head with a right hand. Zappavigna gets in a left hand but takes one in return. Zappavigna goes on the attack to end the round. Saucedo 10-8.

Round 4: Saucedo tries to counter Zappavigna and lands a left. Now Zappavigna gets in a nice body shot and a hard left upstairs that badly stuns Saucedo! Saucedo is on shaky legs and Zappavigna won’t stop throwing punches! Zappavigna is looking to finish Saucedo and is getting in a lot of clean shots. Saucedo is in trouble! Overhand right lands for Zappavigna and we have a war! This is an action packed round. Zappavigna is STILL throwing a number of shots and Saucedo is hanging on for dear life trying to fight Zappavigna off of him. Saucedo is bleeding badly over his left eye. Right hand lead lands for Zappavigna. This is a blood bath. Zappavigna 10-9, 39-36.

Round 5: Zappavigna has renewed vigor now but Saucedo clips him with a counter, then follows up with a short combination. Saucedo takes a few shots from Zappavigna. Zappavigna continues to press forward and both are displaying serious cuts. Left hook to the body lands for Saucedo. Hard right hand lands for Saucedo! Left hook comes back from Zappavigna. Saucedo 10-9.

Round 6: Zappavigna tries a hard right hand but it falls short. Zappavigna hits Saucedo but Saucedo he gets some shots in right back. This has been a fun lil’ scrap! Saucedo tries a six punch combination with Zappavigna on the ropes. Saucedo goes on attack again. Zappavigna’s faces is pouring blood! More shots lands for Saucedo, who is bleeding badly himself. Saucedo 10-9, 59-54.

Round 7: Right hook lands for Saucedo, who has Zappavigna back on the ropes already, an his face is straight out of a horror movie. Zappavigna tries to fight himself off the ropes but takes a sweeping right hookd and on top of all the blood his right eye is swollen badly as well. This fight should probably be stopped soon, Zappavigna’s seriously compromised. One-two lands for Saucedo! Another right hand lands. Zappavigna looks over at the referee like he wants out of this fight and the ref waves it off! It’s over. Saucedo TKO-7.
