“The show must go on,” says promoter Frank Warren in light of the recent news that Billy Joe Saunders has pulled out of his June 23rd title defense against Martin Murray. Saunders, who reportedly suffered a hamstring injury, won’t be ready to go later this month but Warren will still continue with the undercard portion of the show featuring Ohara Davies, Anthony Yarde, and Daniel Dubois.
Warren also makes it a point to refute rumors that Saunders isn’t actually injured and is just using the injury excuse to get out of this fight.
“I’ve seen rumours that Billy isn’t injured but he is a fighting man and there’s no way he would pull out unless he had to. It’s a shame after the devastating performance against Lemieux last Christmas as this was a chance for Billy to keep momentum as we continue to chase big fights for him. Martin may still feature on the card and we are working day and night trying to put something together and we will let the fans know news on this when we’ve had a chance to look at all options”.
Saunders had previously postponed this fight with Murray earlier this year after saying he suffered a hand injury during training.
