Former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (26-0, 19 KOs) has officially been scheduled to take on the unheralded Francesco Pianeta (35-4, 21 KOs) on August 18th in Belfast. The fight will serve on the undercard of Carl Frampton’s scheduled bout against Luke Jackson.
Fury is coming off an easy win over Sefer Seferi last month and will look to keep shaking the rust off in this one against BoxRec’s 138th ranked heavyweight after an almost 3-year hiatus.
“The Seferi fight is history and Pianeta is a far better operator than him,” promoter Frank Warren said. “His level of opposition tells you that.
”Tyson had been out of boxing for a long time and Pianeta is a good opponent for what is Tyson’s second fight back after his break.”
Warren continued by saying that Fury, 29, needs more rounds under his belt before jumping back into the deep end of the heavyweight division where big fights against Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder presumably await.
Pianeta, 33, has twice contended for world titles in his career. The first was against Wladimir Klitschko in 2013 where he was knocked out in 6 rounds, and a couple of years later he would challenge Ruslan Chagaev and get swiftly knocked out in the first round.
