As the first season of the World Boxing Super Series gets ready to wrap up this weekend — the cruiserweight tourney, anyway — with Oleksandr Usyk and Murat Gassiev going head-to-head in the tournament finals which is now only days away, there’s still no official broadcaster for American audiences.
ESPN reports that’s on the verge of changing, though, with WBSS organizers in the midst of finalizing a deal to stream the finals match on the KlowdTV platform. That’s probably not the most ideal scenario, but it’s at least something.
Murat Gassiev (26-0, 19 KOs) has made his way to the finals by sparking Krzysztof Wlodarczyk in a quarterfinals match then stopping Yunier Dorticos in the semifinals, which was easily one of the best fights of the tournament so far.
Meanwhile Oleksandr Usyk (14-0, 11 KOs) was able to stop Marco Huck in the opening round and then went on to grab a majority decision over Mairis Briedis this past January. And as far as this tournament goes, this upcoming finals match is a highly anticipated one, one deserved to be seen by as many fans as possible. The winner of Usyk-Gassiev will become both the tournament winner and the undisputed cruiserweight champion of the world.
