As we gear up for Oleksandr Usyk vs. Murat Gassiev, the sort of champion vs. champion showdown we don’t see nearly enough of these days, let’s take a moment to appreciate that other most sacred of boxing traditions: the massive mismatch.
Last night saw Jean Pascal triumph in his postponed battle with Steve Bosse, knocking out the UFC veteran in eight, while Srisaket Sor Rungvisai spent this morning smashing journeyman Young Gil Bae in 2:50.

Srisaket Sor Rungvisai’s return this morning was so quick that the full fight can almost be uploaded as a Twitter video. KO1 over Young Gil Bae. pic.twitter.com/lknda95J92

Pascal’s (33-5-1, 20 KO) next step is unclear, as he’d previously announced his retirement after an upset finish of Ahmed Elbiali, but Sor Rungvisai (46-4-1, 41 KO) is set to return to action on October 6th in Bangkok. Michael Benson says that it will be another tune-up before a stateside return in 2019, but I haven’t seen confirmation.
