After routing Murat Gassiev earlier today in Moscow to unify all four cruiserweight titles and win the World Boxing Super Series, Oleksandr Usyk called out Tony Bellew, even saying he’d go up to heavyweight to make the fight happen.
“At this moment I heard that Tony Bellew is looking for winner of the World Boxing Super Series and I hope he will see me talking. Tony Bellew, are you ready? If he doesn’t want to go down I will go up for him. I will take extra spaghetti for dinner for him.”
Bellew (30-2-1, 20 KO) has fought his last two bouts at heavyweight, both stoppage wins over David Haye, and he’s been unbeaten since moving up from light heavyweight following a 2013 loss to Adonis Stevenson. He did recently say he wanted to fight the Usyk-Gassiev winner.
The 35-year-old Bellew is also probably the most attractive money option for Usyk (15-0, 11 KO), who is a fantastic boxer but doesn’t exactly have a big star style. A fight with Bellew in the United Kingdom would do good business for sure, which is a win for both fighters.
Will we see it? And if we do, who wins?
