WBO Flyweight Champion Sho Kimura secured his second title defense and his 10th finish in 11 fights earlier today, stopping #3 Froilan Saludar in Qingdao, China. The victory sets up an excellent September 24th bout between Kimura and two-division champion Kosei Tanaka, who debuted at 112 this past February with a knockout of Ronnie Baldonado.
Kimura (17-1-2, 10 KO) was reportedly his usual aggressive self, burying Saludar (28-3-1, 19 KO) with volume and dedicated body work. Saludar went down once in the fifth on one of those body shots, then stayed down from another in the sixth.
There’s no video up yet, but I’d imagine it won’t be long.
In other title action, WBA Minimumweight Champion Knockout CP Freshmart won yet another title defense with a decision over local veteran and WBA #2 Chaozhong Xiong. The defense was Freshmart’s (18-0, 7 KO) ninth, counting the time he spent as interim champion.
