Mikey Garcia (39-0, 30 KO) wants Errol Spence Jr in a dangerous fight at welterweight next, and by all appearances, he’s going to get his wish.
Spence (24-0, 21 KO) holds the IBF welterweight title, while Garcia has the IBF and WBC lightweight titles. A move of two divisions to meet a destroyer doesn’t seem like the best idea for Garcia as far as his chances of winning his next fight go (at least not to me), but as Spence says, Garcia wants to be great, and this is how he feels he can do it right now.
On moving up in weight to face Errol Spence Jr
“We have to make some adjustments with the diet, a little more work, maybe. I don’t think I’m gonna be bulking up, because that would take my other attributes like speed.”
On adjusting to Spence’s style at welterweight
“He fights. He comes forward. I have to make a good strategy, a good game plan. I don’t know. I just want to fight the biggest, the most dangerous man, and that’s him.”
On whether or not he’d stay at 147 if he beats Spence
“I’ll have to see what the biggest challenge at that point is, or the biggest fight. I might stay, I might come down.
