Former light heavyweight title challenger Sullivan Barrera has suffered an injury to his right eye, forcing him out of a planned August 18th match with Seanie Monaghan that would have headlined a Facebook-streamed card. There is no word yet as to whether the card will continue or, if it does, if Monaghan will remain on it.
He should return to action in October or November.
Barrera (21-2, 14 KO) took a beating from Dmitry Bivol in March, ending a four-fight winning streak that included victories over Vyacheslav Shabranskyy and Joe Smith Jr. He doesn’t appear to be a threat to the likes of Bivol or Sergey Kovalev, but he’s plenty tough and always good for a scrap, so here’s hoping he gets his eye fixed up.
