The upcoming IBF title fight between Brooklynites Sergiy Derevyanchenko and Daniel Jacobs will still be in New York, but plans have changed. ESPN reports that Eddie Hearn and Lou DiBella are looking to stage the event at Uniondale’s Nassau Coliseum on November 10th.
They had previously been targeting Madison Square Garden on October 27th, but “could not match arena availability with an HBO date.” Jacobs (34-2, 29 KO) defeated Luis Arias at the Coliseum last November.
Wherever or whenever this happens, it’s pretty much the best fight the division has to offer outside of the big rematch between Golovkin and Canelo. Should “GGG” come out on top, one would assume that he’d target the winner of this fight in an effort to reclaim the IBF belt and continue his quest to unify.
Between those two fights and the surprising Billy Joe Saunders-Demetrius Andrade matchup, we’re in a rare situation where the undisputed top fighters of a division are all facing one another. Let’s enjoy it while it lasts.
