Asian combat sports powerhouse ONE Championships is adding boxing to its rotation.

The promotion, which features regular MMA, kickboxing, and Muay Thai bouts, announced today that WBC Super Flyweight Champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai will headline an October 6th show in Bangkok alongside standout countrymen such as Yodsanklai Fairtex and Nong-O Gaiyanghadao.

The fight, presently against TBA, will be the third defense of his title after victories over Roman Gonzalez and Juan Francisco Estrada. He does, of course, have to get through Young Gil Bae in a non-title bout a week from Saturday, but that seems like a fairly safe bet.

Sor Rungvisai (45-4-1, 40 KO) has had something of a rough go of things since beating Estrada in an excellent battle. His long-term relationship fell apart, leaving his team concerned about his mental state and resulting in his absence from the next installment of Superfly. It’ll be worth keeping an eye on how he does against whomever Victor Cui and co. can get their hands on.

If I am not mistaken, this will be the first time a boxing world title has been at stake on a mixed-sport card. Interesting times.
