De La Hoya talks launch of Golden Boy MMA

The promoter says he gets sick to his stomach over how little MMA fighters earn.

In this video interview with Fight Hub TV, Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya talks a bit about his plans to get into the MMA world and when he hopes to put his first card together. Check it out...

De La Hoya on his immediate plans for an MMA card:

“We haven’t put [the MMA card] together but we’re looking to finalize everything very soon.

“We’re looking at the weekend of November 25th, which is the whole Thanksgiving weekend. So, yeah, we’re gonna do it big just like we do it. So I’m really looking forward to getting into the MMA world and making sure that these fighters are being compensated well because, look, we risk our lives up in the ring. And so fighters should be compensated extremely well...

On if he feels there’s a problem with MMA fighters being underpaid:

“Absolutely. The current structure is terrible! I’ve been talking to many, many fighters in the MMA and its ridiculous on what they get paid. It’s crazy! It gets me sick to my stomach! You know, so I’m gonna start Golden Boy MMA for a reason and it’s gonna start with Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz — to pay them correctly, to pay them what they deserve.”
