The fighters and Frank Warren said earlier today that the fight was on, and now it’s official. Showtime put out a press release saying that a fight between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury for Wilder’s WBC heavyweight title is set, and will be produced by Showtime on pay-per-view in the United States.
Wilder (40-0, 39 KO) will be defending his belt for the eighth time, the last coming in March of this year when he stopped Luis Ortiz in a wild brawl at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. That venue would make sense for a fight with Fury (27-0, 19 KO), who came back to the sport this year after two-and-a-half years off following a win over Wladimir Klitschko, but so would Las Vegas, so we’ll have to wait and see what’s announced.
To that end, details are coming next week as far as date and venue. November 10 and November 17 have been kicked around as potential dates in various media reports over the past couple of weeks.
