Golovkin: There’s so many bad people in boxing!

Gennady Golovkin admits his love for boxing has waned.

Wil Esco is an assistant editor of Bad Left Hook and has been covering boxing for SB Nation since 2014.

Gennady Golovkin takes a moment to chat with Marcos Villegas of Fight Hub TV about his upcoming rematch with Canelo Alvarez and what might be different in the sequel. Check out what he had to say on the fight...

Golovkin on what he believes he can do better in his rematch with Canelo:

“First of all, I feel very comfortable. I’m very relaxing because, you know, I have huge experience from first fight and I know my job. You know, I know what I need. I bring, I show you September 15th. I don’t want talking a lot, you know, because how, like this — like your power, body punch — no, I believe I win this fight.”

On if he’s confident he can get a win if the fight goes the distance:

“Yes and no. Yes because, you know, I feel my power, feel my strategy, I feel very comfortable, yes. And no because this is business — is Vegas and terrible business.”

On if that’s caused him to alter his fight plan:

“No. I just have one plan. Plan A: I wanna beat him!”

On what happens if Canelo moves a lot in this fight, or even more than last time:

“It’s interesting. I have a plan [laughs].”

On his feelings of being stripped by the IBF, effectively killing his dream of becoming undisputed champion at 160:

“You know just, this is really just terrible situation to boxing, not just for me. This situation [shakes head] is not logic. How is possible?! You know, it’s terrible.”

On if he feels the boxing machine is against him and that his back is against the wall:

“Maybe. This is business. This is not boxing, this is business.”

On if he thinks Canelo and he can become friends after the fight:

“...He’s fighter, I’m a fighter, you know? He knows my situation - I speak true, you know?! I don’t have problem. Really, I don’t have problem. He has problem! If he said ‘yes’ he have problem, you know, not still like this — like selfish...I know he’s not my, you know, big friend...He knows I speak true. If he ready for true, he finished with fake, come back!”

Of if his love for boxing has diminished:

“Did you see my last couple fights, you know, this is business. This is not only boxing. I like, not love because this is business, not only boxing. If you see just boxing — a real sport — 100%. So many bad people stay with this business. So many bad promotions still with this business.
