In anticipation of their scheduled rematch on September 15, HBO has just released the full first episode of 24/7: Canelo/Golovkin 2 which premiered on the network just last night. You can catch the full opening episode here, courtesy of HBO.
The animosity between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin has been simmering over the past year, and heated up after Canelo tested positive for a banned substance that scuttled the rematch which was originally slated for May 5th.
Golovkin has unabashedly ripped Canelo in the media ever since, calling him a habitual cheater who finally got caught. Meanwhile Canelo, who maintains he only accidentally ingested tainted meat which caused the positive drug tests, has taken offense to Golovkin’s characterizations and plans to make him pay for it in the ring.
All in all, what more can you really ask for as a fight fan? It’s a great, high level fight that has some personal disdain mixed in — which hopefully will only fuel the action come fight night.
