Today, starting at 2 p.m. ET, HBO will be live streaming the official weigh-in for Sergey Kovalev’s WBO title defense against Eleider Alvarez, set for tomorrow night. The undercard bout will also feature Dmitry Bivol defending his WBA title against Isaac Chilemba, which could set up a potential light heavyweight unification between Kovalev and Bivol.
Kovalev (32-2-1) is most recently coming into this fight off two consecutive stoppage wins over Vyacheslav Shabranskyy last November and Igor Mikhalkin this past March. Kovalev has been saying that he’s rededicated himself to the sport after letting the fame get to his head, and certainly not being lined-up against someone like Andre Ward will be beneficial.
Alvarez (23-0, 11 KOs) is coming off a majority decision win over Jean Pascal over a year ago, and while he’s been on the shelf for longer than ideal, he should be pretty fresh for this first shot at a major world title.
