Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn, speaking with AB Boxing, has revealed that the fight between WBO Middleweight Champion Billy Joe Saunders and mandatory challenger Demetrius Andrade will take place on October 20th at Boston’s TD Garden.
I went to UFC Fight Night 81 at the Garden last year. Nice place.
Katie Taylor’s title defense against Cindy Serrano has moved from Chicago to Boston, as well, and BoxRec lists Commonwealth Lightweight Champion Tommy Coyle against TBA.
Saunders (26-0, 12 KO) and Andrade (25-0, 16 KO) will each be facing their toughest opponent to date. Saunders is coming off a one-sided win over David Lemieux, while Andrade racked up wins over Vanes Martirosyan, Willie Nelson, and Jack Culcay before making the move to 160.
It’s a fight that could easily wind up a stinker, as both men are tricky southpaws who aren’t always willing to turn up the heat, but I’m glad it’s happening. At this point, Jermall Charlo is essentially the only elite middleweight not booked against another top fighter.
More of this, please.
