Sergey Kovalev: I will be champion again

Sergey Kovalev has had a few days, and sounds determined to get back on top.

Following last Saturday’s stunning KO loss to Eleider Alvarez in Atlantic City, live on HBO, former light heavyweight titleholder Sergey Kovalev has taken a few days to recover, even hinted at retirement a little bit, and now sounds motivated to come back strong.

If you can’t watch the video above, here’s Kovalev’s quick message to fans:

“Hi, boxing fans. I wanna say a big, big thank you for your support before the fight and after the fight. I’m resting right now. I’m feeling good with my health. Everything’s OK and I’m feeling good. I just need to get a rest for a couple months from the boxing, and with a new motivation, I’ll be back as soon as possible to the fight. I will be the champion again. Thank you for everything, for your support, and God bless you. Thank you very much.”

Kovalev (32-3-1, 28 KO) is 35 years old but still a contender at 175, and he does have a rematch clause for another shot at Alvarez (24-0, 12 KO), who wants to return in December.
