Floyd Mayweather says he’s ‘coming back’ to rematch Manny Pacquiao in December

That’s one way to steal the limelight...

This weekend is all supposed to be about tonight’s huge showdown between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin, but Floyd Mayweather has managed to crash the party (pun intended) with a surprise ‘announcement’ that he’ll be returning to boxing to take on Manny Pacquiao in a rematch. Mayweather and Pacquiao crossed paths at a club overseas which can be seen here...

“I’m coming back in December,” Mayweather can be heard saying on video. At that point Pacquiao, who was standing in close proximity, saw his eyes light up like a Christmas tree.

“I have the belt!” Pacquiao repeatedly said to Mayweather, pleading for the fight.

And what belt might that be, you ask? That belt would be the WBA’s ‘regular’ title — a secondary title to Keith Thurman’s ‘super’ title. I don’t know how much Mayweather is interested in secondary title belts, but he’s definitely into cashing out, which I suppose makes this a real possibility.

“Aye, I don’t want you talkin’ bout your shoulder hurting!’ Mayweather quipped back to Pacquiao, who had no real comeback at that point other than to reiterate that he has a belt yet another time.

Mayweather and Pacquiao squared off for the first time in May 2015, in what wound up being the richest boxing match of all time. The fight had been clamored for many years prior to it finally happening, and once it finally did, despite being a commercial success, a lot fans felt disappointed with the performance between the two. Of course Pacquiao stating after the fact that he went into the severely injured with torn rotator cuff only agitated fans that much more.

So, will this rematch really happen? Who’s to say at this point. Mayweather says it’ll be happening, but he also announced that Gervonta Davis would be fighting Abner Mares and we’ve still yet to hear any confirmed details on that. That said, if Mayweather were to rematch Pacquiao it would undoubtedly big another big money maker, so you can’t completely rule it out.
