Joshua-Povetkin: Anthony Joshua’s Media Workout

Anthony Joshua puts on a little display before he defends his titles against Alexander Povetkin this weekend.

Just a couple of days before his heavyweight world title defense against Alexander Povetkin, titleholder Anthony Joshua holds an opening media workout, which featured more pageantry than you typically see in one of these. That said, Joshua is being pushed as a global star and this title defense will be the inaugural event for the new sports streaming app DAZN.

Joshua makes a grand entrance with a ring walk and then gets in a light workout with plenty of adoring fans in attendance just hoping to get a glimpse of Joshua do his thing. That said, the real test comes on Saturday, when the fighters lace up the gloves to do battle.

Joshua (21-0, 20 KOs) enters this fight coming off a title unification win over Joseph Parker in March. There was plenty of talk of him potentially having an undisputed title unification fight with Deontay Wilder, which is the fight the world really wants, but that all folded after Joshua was ordered to face Povetkin as a mandatory title defense. Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, says a fight with Wilder could still be in play for next spring.
