According to a report from ESPN, middleweight titleholder Billy Joe Saunders has been fined £100,000 for sullying the reputation of boxing with his latest shenanigans. For those who didn’t see it, a video of Saunders surfaced last week which featured him taunting and baiting a drug addicted woman just for a few laughs. The antics drew the ire of many.

Saunders was then called before the British Boxing Board of Control so they could address his conduct, and this fine was his punishment. Here’s part of a statement the BBBoC released on the issue:

“Billy Joe Saunders appeared before the Stewards of the British Boxing Board of Control today under a misconduct charge following his recent behaviour shown on social media.

“The Stewards have found Mr. Saunders guilty of bringing the sport of Boxing into disrepute and have fined him the sum of £100,000 and issued a severe reprimand as to his future conduct.”

Local police where the incident occurred will continue to investigate the video, as it captures Saunders offering to supply illegal drugs as well as aiding and abetting an assault when Saunders coerced the woman into striking a pedestrian who just happened to be walking by.

In the fallout Saunders says that he was sorry and that “he can’t do anything but be sorry.”

Saunders is currently scheduled to defend his world title on Oct. 20th in Boston.
