Amir Khan has a fight coming up on Saturday with Samuel Vargas, but there’s still plenty of chatter about bigger fights coming down the line if he wins as expected, namely against Manny Pacquiao or longtime media rival Kell Brook.
Brook has been in the news a bit lately, talking about potentially moving back down to 147 pounds for a big fight, maybe with Khan, but Khan doubts his would-be nemesis can do it:
“I am sure he had a fight coming up but he pulled out. The rumours were that he pulled out of that because he couldn’t even make 154lbs, so him making 147lbs is just a line he is using to get the fans back again, or win the fans over. I do feel sorry for him at times but at the end of the day, I have to look after myself and my own career. If the fight happens between us I know it will be big. I just hope he stays strong because the way he seems to me, he couldn’t get a fight out of him.”
Khan (32-4, 20 KO) and Brook (37-2, 26 KO) have been circling each other for a while now, including after Khan’s last bout, the 39-second wipeout of Phil Lo Greco in April.
Will they ever fight? Who knows? I don’t know. 147 would seemingly make it more likely, but Khan is right, I think, to be skeptical about that actually happening.
