On the heels of the news that PBC has just entered into a formal extension with the Showtime network, Mike Coppinger of The Ring has reported that Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions has also just landed a major deal with FOX. The deal, which is said to be a multi-year one, will pave the way for fight cards to appear on both FS1 and FOX’s flagship channel starting this December.
There is a formal announcement expected to be made on Tuesday but for now it’s understood that the deal will include at least 10 championship level fights on FOX with another 12 cards to be featured on FS1. FOX’s budget for the cards, said to be over $60M annually, combined with Showtime’s (which is estimated at $60M/year) is supposed to be even bigger than Eddie Hearn’s DAZN deal in the United States.
“Between Showtime and Fox, PBC will have a bigger pool of budget money than any other promoter in boxing, including Eddie Hearn with DAZN,” an industry source who was not authorized to speak publicly told The Ring.
For now it remains to be seen how Haymon will divide up his stars between the networks, but it’s expected that Showtime will retain the talent for the divisions like welterweight where they have invested significant funds.
