Victor Ortiz and John Molina sign deal to fight, Sept. 30

After the fighters penned a contract, they faced off for the first time.

Check out the video above to see former welterweight champion Victor Ortiz and John Molina sign a deal to face one another. Both fighters sat down at table on the dais and signed their respective contracts for the bout, with Ortiz making a couple of goofball jokes along the way.

After the paperwork was signed, making official their September 30th fight on Fox Sports 1, the fighters held their first face off then and there.

Ortiz (32-6-3, 25 KOs), 31, enters this fight on the heels of majority decision draw with Devon Alexander in February that many felt Ortiz didn’t deserve. That fight aside Ortiz has gone 3-4 in his last seven outings, a seesaw that has come to define his professional boxing career.

Meanwhile Molina (30-7, 24 KOs), 35, is coming off a stoppage win over Ivan Redkach last December. He’s also gone 3-4 in his last seven outings and his best days are clearly behind him at this point.

All in all this is a pretty evenly matched fight between fighters who are past it but still can mix it up and make it entertaining on any given night. They’ll both be fighting to maintain whatever relevance their career has left at this stage and hopefully we’ll get to see some of that desperation manifest itself on fight night.
