Trainer Joe Goossen has been around the fight game for a long, long time, and has worked with some great fighters over the years.
But none of them, he tells Sky Sports, ever had hands any faster than Amir Khan.
“I’ve had, over the decades, some that are considered the quickest-handed guys in the business, but I haven’t had anybody faster with their hands than Amir Khan. Never. ... I even told my wife, that’s how amazed I was. I’ve been with her for over 40 years so she knows a lot more about boxing than a lot of people I know. Without a doubt, Amir has the fastest hands out of anyone I have ever worked for and I’ve been around for a long time.”
Goossen says that Khan (32-4, 20 KO), who faces Samuel Vargas this Saturday, is also a very “teachable” fighter, and someone “clicked with straight away.” The two worked together for Khan’s 39-second blowout of Phil Lo Greco in April of this year, and the Vargas bout will be their second together.
If all goes as expected on Saturday, with Khan winning in style, Amir says he’s looking for a big fight, possibly a stadium fight, in his next outing.
