If there’s any chance that Oleksandr Usyk and Tony Bellew square off with all the cruiserweight titles on the line, it has just got a lot better. WBN reports that Usky has just signed with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing in a joint promotional venture alongside K2 promotions. With the signing Usyk’s next fight will stream on DAZN and air live on Sky Sports.
“I’m thrilled that K2 Promotions will be working with Matchroom Boxing moving forward to secure me the biggest fights out there,” said Usyk. “Fans can look forward to watching me take on the biggest and best names in the sport. Boxing for me is all about drama and victory, and there is plenty more to come. A fight with Tony Bellew would be a momentous occasion, he is a good boxer and a good person and I also have the option to move into the Heavyweight division.”
Usyk, 31, is coming off a win in the World Boxing Super Series’ finals against Murat Gassiev. With that win Usyk was able to become the first cruiserweight in history to unify all four major world titles.
So with nothing left for him to prove at cruiserweight, Usyk has been debating either moving up to heavyweight or taking on Tony Bellew in what would be a big fight in the U.K. — not to mention make Usyk a good chunk of change. A formal agreement between Usyk and Bellew hasn’t been reached as of yet, but all signs point to it happening.
