Tonight at 8 pm ET on FOX, Premier Boxing Champions is back with a doubleheader from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, headlined by Keith Thurman defending his WBA “super world” welterweight title against Josesito Lopez.
The fight is the first for Thurman (28-0, 22 KO) in 22 months. When we last saw him, he beat Danny Garcia, and had established himself fully as one of the world’s best welterweights. But after dealing with injuries and a very long layoff, there’s a chance we see a different Thurman.
If so, if he’s rusty, then Lopez (36-7, 19 KO) is the sort of tough, tested opponent who could be a problem. But if Thurman is sharp, it’s likely he’s just a class apart from Lopez.
The co-feature is a heavyweight fight set for 10 rounds. Rising contender Adam Kownacki (18-0, 14 KO) is in against Gerald Washington (19-2-1, 12 KO). If Kownacki is for real, he should win, but Washington is a solid gatekeeper, the sort meant to turn back pretenders. So we’ll see.
