UPDATE: Spence appears to have suffered broken teeth but is expected to recover from injuries in what may be a bit of a miracle given how bad the accident was. It’s also likely he’s going to be charged with DWI, according to J.D. Miles of CBS 11 News. — Scott Christ

Unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. has sustained serious injuries following an early morning car accident in Dallas, TX. Spence was reportedly driving at a high rate of speed around 3 a.m. when his Ferrari went over a median and flipped several times. Spence, whom police say was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle during the single car crash. Spence was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries and placed in the intensive care unit, though he is expected to survive.

A photo of Spence’s totaled sportscar tells most of the story.

Spence, 29, was an amateur boxing standout and thought to have been the best professional prospect from the 2012 USA Olympic boxing team. So far Spence has lived up to that promise, racking up a 26-0 professional record, becoming a world champion, and just recently unifying that title in a Fight of the Year candidate with Shawn Porter.

We extend our best wishes to Spence, hoping for a full and speedy recovery.
