Artur Beterbiev was very impressive on Friday night in Philadelphia, scoring a 10th round stoppage win over Oleksandr Gvozdyk to unify the IBF and WBC light heavyweight titles, in a competitive fight that Beterbiev was losing on the cards at the time of the stoppage.
Beterbiev (15-0, 15 KO) didn’t just impress fans and media and commentators and what have you, though, he impressed his fellow fighters watching along and talking about the fight on social media, and the fight itself drew strong reviews, too, as it should have.
Here’s a handful of tweets from fighters giving their thoughts on the fight, Beterbiev, Gvozdyk, Gvozdyk’s trainer Teddy Atlas, etc.
Super featherweight titleholder Jamel Herring and women’s multi-division champ Claressa Shields were impressed with Beterbiev’s determination and power:
Beterbiev is a dog!!

Former super middleweight titleholder Caleb Truax thought that Atlas may have left Gvozdyk out there to take too much of a beating:
Teddy did Gvozdyk no favors there. He took a beating in 9 & 10. #BeterbievGvozdyk #boxing

But Truax was also among several who thought that it was a hell of a battle:
Greatttttt fucking fight

Former welterweight titlist Jessie Vargas also wants to see some respect for the man who came up short:
#Gvozdyk didn’t quit in his corner. Give the man some credit. He showed plenty of courage #GvozdykBeterbiev
