Golovkin vs Derevyanchenko: Gennadiy Golovkin’s Media Workout

Golovkin looks to recapture a middleweight world title this Saturday.

Former unified middleweight titleholder Gennadiy Golovkin (39-1-1, 35 KOs) will be back in action this weekend, just a few months removed from his brief knockout win over Steve Rolls over the summer. In this outing Golovkin will look to get the IBF middleweight title back around his waist, after he was stripped for not previously agreeing to face Sergiy Derevyanchenko.

Canelo Alvarez would ultimately get his hands on that IBF title, but only briefly as Canelo also failed to come to terms to face Derevyanchenko within a specified time frame. That put Golovkin right back in line to vie for the title against Derevyanchenko, which he will do this Saturday night.

Golovkin, 37, is obviously no spring chicken at this point, but he feels he has a point to prove that he’s still at the top of his game. This fight should be a good indicator of whether or not that’s the case since Derevyanchenko is a much more formidable opponent than Steve Rolls was.

But until we get a chance to see what Golovkin has to offer in this outing, we can only get a glimpse of his current form as he holds this open media workout ahead of the fight.
