With Ricky Burns set to take on Lee Selby this weekend, there’s been questions floating around the 36-year-old fighter, wondering is he’s not too long in the tooth to carry on much longer. Well, according to Burns, he’s not done quite yet, and is fully focused on this weekend’s matchup before looking to continue his career.
“The titles are held up by (Ring Magazine, WBA, WBC and WBO titleholder Vasiliy) Lomachenko and (IBF titleholder) Richard Commey, who has a fight coming up with Teofimo Lopez. But there are still so many big fights out there at lightweight if I come through this one. I still believe that I have a couple of big nights left in me. I would love to get another big fight at The Hydro (in Glasgow), but Lee has my full attention right now.”
Burns (43-7-1, 16 KOs) is most recently coming off two wins over low-tier opposition since dropping consecutive decisions to Julius Indongo and Anthony Crolla in 2017.
Do any of you agree with Burns that he still has some big fights left in him?
