The dust is beginning to settle following today’s big fight in London, where Josh Taylor won a majority decision over Regis Prograis to unify the IBF and WBA junior welterweight titles and claim the Ali Trophy as winner of the World Boxing Super Series tournament.
The fight is already being heralded as one of the year’s best, as the two top fighters lived up to their hype and put on a hell of a battle at the O2 Arena, with both Taylor (16-0, 12 KO) and Prograis (24-1, 20 KO) proving to be genuine top-tier talents.
But it was Scotland’s Taylor who emerged a deserving winner, and is getting much respect from the boxing world today, as he should. That’s not to say Prograis isn’t getting any, because he is, and the fight itself is, again, being acclaimed by those in and around boxing.
Here are some tweets from pros on how they scored it, how good the fight was, and offering congratulations to Taylor on his huge win:
115-115 Draw. I edged towards Prograis but Josh couldn’t see in that last round out of that right eye. I can’t argue either way - so many close, great rounds of boxing. Both me deserve to win there. Wow

8-4 Taylor for me. Dominated from 5-10, fair play prograis came back 11 and 12.

If this fight was scored on clean punches alone Prograis wins. But Taylor boxed & fought beautifully! What a damn good fight! Taylor by decision for me. #TaylorPrograis

Congratulations to Taylor for a great victory. I have a terrible memory of Taylor. We had an 8-round match and it gave me a hook that when I left the gym I went to the hospital lol.
