Junior middleweight Erickson Lubin won his fourth straight fight in tonight’s Showtime main event, widely outpointing Nathaniel Gallimore over 10 rounds.
Scores were 99-91 across the board for the 24-year-old “Hammer” Lubin, which is also what Bad Left Hook had as an unofficial score.
Lubin (22-1, 16 KO) did have his stoppage streak ended at three, as Gallimore (21-4-1, 17 KO) managed to go the distance, and still has never been stopped. But the 31-year-old Chicago fighter, born in Jamaica, never really threatened Lubin with much by way of offense, either, and the fight was never truly competitive.
Lubin wasn’t exactly sensational here, but he took what Gallimore gave him, landed some good shots along the way, and was largely able to cruise. There are still sincere questions about Lubin at the top levels — in his one chance, he was knocked out in one by Jermell Charlo, and though you can argue he rushed into that fight, that’s still the reality of the matter.
But Lubin has done what he’s needed to do since that loss, getting reportedly more serious about training under the guidance of Kevin Cunningham, and winning the fights he’s been booked into, and winning without any real trouble at all. He’s still young, he can punch, he’s got some skills, and he may well be on his way back to the world title mix at 154.
