Top Rank’s November 30th Vegas show headlined by Oscar Valdez vs. Andres Gutierrez may be joined by a quality super welterweight eliminator. ESPN’s Steve Kim, citing representatives from both Top Rank and Golden Boy, reports that negotiations are underway between WBO #1 Carlos Adames and #2 Patrick Teixeira.
25-year-old Adames (18-0, 14 KO) is a regular on Top Rank shows, a power-puncher from the Dominican Republic who’s looked impressive throughout his rise. His three-fight 2019 campaign has seen him smash Juan Ruiz on the Oscar Rivas-Bryant Jennings card, do the same to Frank Galarza on Crawford-Khan, and badly hurt but fail to stop Patrick Day on Beltran-Commey.
Teixeira (30-1, 22 KO) was an unbeaten prospect with a fluffy record when Curtis Stevens ensued in 2016, smashing him in two rounds ahead of Canelo-Khan. He’s since won four straight, the most notable among them fringe contender Nathaniel Gallimore. He’ll be the underdog in a major way.
However wins this will presumably be next in line for champion Jaime Munguia, though it remains to be seen how long the hulking youngster remains in the division.
