Gennadiy Golovkin is looking to regain a piece of the middleweight crown this evening at Madison Square Garden, while Sergiy Derevyanchenko is looking to pick one up for the first time in his pro career.
Golovkin (39-1-1, 35 KO) is the favored man, as expected, with lines between -450 and -530 on various sportsbooks. The 37-year-old GGG hasn’t faced a real contender in about a year, last fighting in June against a totally overmatched Steve Rolls, but he’s still seen as no worse than the second-best middleweight in boxing, and has been at or near the top for years now.
Derevyanchenko (13-1, 10 KO) isn’t a huge underdog, though, listed between +300 and +400, which indicates a belief that he stands a really good chance to be competitive against an aging GGG.
Some of the lines from the undercard, none of the fights expected to be much:
- Israil Madrimov (-2335 to -10000) vs Alejandro Barrera (+1000 to +1600)
- Ivan Baranchyk (-3059 to -10000) vs Gabriel Bracero (+1200 to +1955)
- Ali Akhmedov (-3700 to -10000) vs Andrew Hernandez (+1150 to +2300)
- Joseph Ward (-3145 to -10000) vs Marco Delgado (+1200 to +1955)
