James Ali Bashir, the trainer of Ivana Habazin, had to be sent right back to the hospital on Monday as he was diagnosed with a brain bleed, according to Habazin. Bashir had been attacked from behind just before Habazin was set to take on Claressa Shields last weekend, and that fight was canceled after Habazin had to be hospitalized with visible facial damage. Turns out his injuries were more severe than originally thought.
Yesterday, my coach James Ali Bashir was called by Detroit hospital's personel and told that he needs to go to the nearest hospital ASAP because he has bleeding in his brain! I feel very bad because of all this thing what happend. My prayers are with him! ♥️ pic.twitter.com/0aspj5GiVB

The attack on Hazabin was thought to be in retaliation to a confrontation he had with members of Claressa Shields’ team, although Shields has denied that anyone from her entourage touched the trainer, saying she doesn’t condone that kind of stuff.
As of now there hasn’t appeared to be any official confirmation on who actually carried out the attack on the longtime trainer, but it was obviously a reprehensible move. For now we extend our best wishes Bashir and hope that he has a full and speedy recovery. Boxing already has enough tragedies inside of the ring, we don’t need to see folks getting critically injured outside of it as well.
