Thursday, Nov. 14
DAZN, 10:00 pm ET, Carlos Morales vs Mercito Gesta. Thursday Night Fights is back with what should be a solid main event between a couple of lightweights who aren’t elite, but are fine fighters for this level of show. Morales is tough and can be awkward, while Gesta is a former prospect who’s just never really put it all together. 154-pound prospect Travell Mazion is also in action, plus super bantamweight prospect Anthony Garnica, and super featherweight veterans Charles Huerta and Jonathan Oquendo square off. BLH will have live coverage.
Friday, Nov. 15
ESPN+, 3:00 am ET, Paul Gallen vs Barry Hall, Andrew Moloney vs Elton Dharry, Jason Moloney vs Dixon Flores. The Moloney twins are serious contenders at 115 and 118 and also with Top Rank, but this is a Danny Green-promoted card, and neither of them are the main event here. Gallen is a 38-year-old rugby league footballer with a 9-0 career boxing record of no significance, facing Hall, a 42-year-old Australian rules footballer making his pro boxing debut, although he did box amateur in his youth. Hall is known as a BAD BOY of his sport. In America and England we get something like KSI-Logan Paul, but Australians are insane people who only make it out of childhood by evading six million poisonous creatures, so their celebrity fights are still between a couple of actual tough guys. BLH will have live coverage.
ESPN+, 3:00 pm ET, Rocky Fielding vs Abdallah Paziwapazi. Martin Murray, Natasha Jonas, and Terry Flanagan are also on this MTK card from Liverpool’s Olympia, where Fielding is finally returning after 11 months off following his thrashing at the hands of Canelo Alvarez.
UFC Fight Pass, 10:00 pm ET, Junior Fa vs Devin Vargas, Hemi Ahio vs Joshua Tufte. Fa is 30 and you’d have really liked to have seen him step up more than this by now if he’s going to be a serious heavyweight prospect. Vargas is gatekeeper that better fighters stop. Ahio, 29, is another New Zealand heavyweight looking to make some waves. Tufte is 0-3 against real opponents.
SHO, 10:30 pm ET, Erik Vega Ortiz vs Alberto Palmetta, Marcos Escudero vs Joseph George, Amilcar Vidal vs Zach Prieto. It’s another edition of ShoBox, a series that has lost a lot of luster in the last couple of years because the really good prospects are generally snapped up by all the power promoters, and outside of PBC and PBC affiliates, the power promoters don’t run on Showtime anymore. But hey, Devin Haney self-promoted himself through his run on ShoBox before making the leap to Matchroom and DAZN, so you never know when the next hungry, legit young talent might come along. BLH will have live coverage.
Saturday, Nov. 16
ESPN+, 2:30 pm ET, Sven Fornling vs Dominic Boesel. According to the IBO, Sven Fornling is the top light heavyweight in the world. And there’s also an interim WBA title on the line here, too — Dmitry Bivol holds the WBA world title (there’s no super champ at 175 right now), and Jean Pascal just won the interim WBA belt in August, but, well, WBA.
ESPN+, 3:00 pm ET, Lee McGregor vs Kash Farooq. McGregor is a bantamweight prospect with some real upside, potential world-level player down the line. He’s a 22-year-old from Edinburgh who’s already won the Commonwealth title, and here he goes for the British belt held by Farooq, also an unbeaten prospect. This is a good matchup and could be worth tuning in to see. I’m out of town on Saturday or we’d do live coverage.
Facebook, 10:00 pm ET, Pablo Cesar Cano vs Roberto Ortiz. Start time is a guesstimate at the moment. Cano is usually pretty fun to watch, and is also one of the most inconsistent fighters in the sport. He should win here, but who knows? It’s Cano. He lost to Alan Sanchez and Fidel Maldonado Jr and then beat Ruslan Madiyev and Jorge Linares. BLH will have live coverage.
