George Kambosos Jr. won’t be the only prospect stepping up on the December 14th Terence Crawford-Egidijus Kavaliauskas undercard. ESPN’s Steve Kim reports that super middleweight ShoBox veteran Cem Killic is set to take on fellow unbeaten Steve Nelson, a training partner of Crawford’s who’s recently cut his teeth on ESPN+.
Turkey’s Kilic (14-0, 9 KO) is the younger of the two by five years and has the most notable victory, a decision over DeAndre Ware last year in the opening bout of a Devin Haney-Juan Carlos Burgos ShoBox card. Said decision is sandwiched among four stoppage wins, the most recent coming over Martez McGregor on the Tyson Fury-Tom Schwarz undercard.
The 31-year-old Nelson (15-0, 12 KO) is a regular fixture on Crawford’s cards, though he’s a fair bit more active than his stablemate. His three 2019 appearances include a September finish of journeyman Derrick Findley.
I really hope “lesser-name prospects in steps up” becomes a trend for pre-PPV undercards. Seems like a fun concept.
